November 9, 2018 – Belhaven, NC to Vandemere, NC

Today we departed the Dowery Creek Marina and headed south on the Pongo River, through the Pamlico River, which is the headwaters of the Pamlico Sound.  Although the sun tried to show, thick clouds and mist appeared instead.  The sun appeared as we entered under the fixed 65′ Hobucken Bridge.  Mayo Docks was immediately at our starboard where we took a break to fuel and purchase some fresh off the boat shrimp and grouper.  It is here that boaters can tie up at 40 cents/foot (no amenities).  One hundred pound bags of shrimp were being unloaded from the shrimp boat Birdie P.

Rather than stay at this rather affordable dockage, we chose to move on to a beautiful anchorage of the shores of Vandemere, NC.  We chose this anchorage in order to obtain better wi-fi allowing us to post to this blog.  Jack received the opportunity to de-head the shrimp for our supper tonight.   The grouper went into the freezer.  A great sunset ensued, perfect for enjoying sundowners!
