November 22-23, 2018 – Fridaycap Anchorage to Jekyll Island, GA

Bright and beautiful sun this Thanksgiving Day!  Before departing, we Facetime with our daughter, Megan and son-in-law, Travis.  We provide them a tour of BlueBreeze.  Can’t wait for our entire family to experience the boat in person.

Our cruise to Jekyll Island today is only 24 nautical miles and we arrive around 12:30 p.m.  We plan to dock at Jekyll Island Marina and enjoy the company of our VT sailing friends, Linda and Nile Schneider who arrived earlier this day.  After obtaining fuel and pumping out, we move to our cement facedock.

After getting showers, we gather on the BlueBreeze for drinks and appetizers.  The Schneiders have found us a couple of restaurant selections open for a Thanksgiving meal that is within a five minute walk.  We end up at an Irish Pub serving a traditional American Thanksgiving.  However, of the four of us, only Ann orders the Thanksgiving meal.  On our return walk to the marina, we encounter beautifully decorated trees.

The four of us ended our evening with many, many hands of ‘Manipulation’ and lots of conversation about sailboats and cruising.  We experience quite a bit of boat rocking so a fourth line is placed on for greater stability.  Our plan had been to pick up provisions on Friday morning with expectations of reaching FL.  However, weather reports are for very strong winds with even stronger gusts, much rain to be expected, and high seas in the path of our plan for Friday.  We decide the safer thing to do is to stay put for another day.

On Friday morning while it is not raining, the four of us take the courtesy golf cart to the Jekyll Market for some provisions.  We barely return before the first rain storm and take advantage of our time inside to catchup on cleaning, another attempt to stop the aft head from leaking, and Ann ventures out to the laundry.  In between rain storms, the four of us walk over to Zachry’s Riverhouse for an early supper, enjoying grouper and their beer selection.  There never was the opportunity to tour the island with the Marina’s courtesy golf cart.  We have spent time on the island during our previous travels in the Conch Coach but our friends have not.  Our departure is an early one but they will have more time tomorrow expecting the weather to be better.

We end the evening with the card game ‘Golf’ while the rain continues to fall!
